The Day Of Surgery

Medications
If you normally take blood pressure, heart or seizure medication, take it with a sip of water on the day of your surgery as directed by your physician. It would be extremely helpful if you could fax a list of your medications and dosage to our confidential pre-operative line, 650-988-7829. If you cannot fax, please bring a list with dosages of all your medications, including herbs, vitamins or diet supplements. If you are diabetic, contact your doctor for specific instructions. If you use an inhaler or migraine medication, bring it with you to the Surgery Center.

Attire
Wear simple, loose clothing to ensure your comfort. Leave all valuables and jewelry at home (with the exception of your photo ID and a form of payment for the procedure), as we cannot secure these items for you. Please refrain from using fragrances.

Arrival
Check in with the receptionist when you arrive at the Surgery Center, and have a seat in the waiting area until a nurse calls your name. Delays can sometimes occur in our schedule; if they do, we appreciate your understanding.

Preparation
A nurse will escort you to the perioperative holding area, where you will be prepared for surgery. Here the staff will answer any questions you may have and provide any additional instructions you may need. After preparation is complete, one family member or visitor may sit with you until it is time for your surgery.

Pediatric Patients
A parent or legal guardian must remain at the Surgery Center at all times when children under the age of 18 are having a procedure. You may be with the child before and after the procedure. Two adults should accompany the child home — one to drive and one to take care of the child.
